Michael M.

Hi Trans am folks! My name is Mike M. - I grew up out in New York. My father is the reason I have loved cars all my life. He is a true car fanatic growing up in the late 50’s and early 60’s in the true era of the muscle car. So needless to say our driveway at home was never short of few projects. My first memories of those cars were what I refer to as the “Chevy Era”. My father had a 55 Chevy Handyman which he purchase from my uncle. This car was a hot rod of sorts… always trying out different colors with cheap paint jobs.. etc… At the bottom of the driveway was a 1957 Chevy Nomad shell.. my sister and I used to sleigh ride under the car, up through the floor and out the back! Yeah.. it was a shell!! Around that time I remember my family piling into the station wagon and going to see “Smokey and the Bandit” at the drive in and I guess about a year or so after at some point during the “Chevy Era” a friend of my fathers was selling a Buccaneer red 1978 Trans Am. I remember vividly going around the corner to his house and checking out the car. Shortly there after it was a staple in our driveway! I used to sit in that car and pretend I was laying rubber throughout my neighborhood…. Loved that car!!!! Probably about a year later a telephone pole jumped out in the middle of the road and hit my father and his trans am while it was raining out. So that car went the way of the car crusher….very sad day. Probably about three months later, dad and I took a ride to the Pontiac dealer, we came home in a 1979 White with an orange eagle trans am with red interior! WOW WAS THAT CAR UGLY!!! The lines on the car were nice.. but I missed the Buccaneer Red with the sweet three colored eagle. That 79 lasted about three years then sold…. The story doesn’t end there! My older sister (yes SISTER!) also became a car fanatic during those years!!! She went through the same stages as my father did.. her first car was a 1957 Chevy 4 door Bel Air….. that lasted about two years before she decided to go for a car with Power steering.. so the chevy went into the garage and a 1978 4 Speed Trans Am SE came rolling into the driveway as her daily driver! Sis held onto this car too after driving it around for years…… She just had a complete frame off restoration completed on the car, and let me tell you.. it’s beautiful! So after many many years of wanting my first Trans am and living vicariously through my family.. I went out and purchased my 1978 Solar Gold 4 Speed WS6 W72 Trans am. I thought I hit the mother load… it was a beaut but needed some interior work…. And I was so happy to have my first project… but I still wanted my 4 Speed SE eventually. So one day about two months after purchasing the ‘78.. There she was, a 1977 4 Speed Y81. I ran to the phone, called the owner and checked it out that weekend. After hearing back from the owner that he would sell me the car I was forced to sell the ‘78 as I needed the space. …. The next weekend the ‘77 SE was in my driveway where it will stay FOREVER! I plan to restore this car to its original glory, 100% stock! She is a project…but it’s nice to have it in the garage!
